Moving to a bigger or smaller plan

It is the same server

A plan change moves the limits on the server you already have. Your world, your plugins, your configs, your backups and your address all stay exactly where they are. There is nothing to move, nothing to reinstall, and nothing to tell your players.

Go to your account, open the server, and use Change size.

Moving up takes effect straight away

Pick the larger size and confirm. Stripe invoices the difference for the rest of the current month, so if you are halfway through you pay roughly half the gap rather than a whole month. Your renewal date does not move.

The new limits are applied to your server within a minute or two. Restart the server from the panel afterwards. Java claims its heap when it starts, so a running server keeps the old memory limit until it is restarted. Everything else, disk and backup slots, applies immediately.

If we do not have the memory free for the size you want, that option says so instead of offering a button. We would rather tell you than sell you something and sort it out later. Ask us and we will tell you when it opens up.

Moving down takes effect at your renewal

Pick the smaller size and confirm, and nothing changes today. You keep the server you have already paid for until the end of the current month. On your renewal date the invoice is for the smaller amount and the limits come down once it is paid.

You can cancel a scheduled downgrade at any time before that date, from the same page. Nothing has been charged, so nothing needs refunding.

The one thing to check before shrinking

Smaller plans have smaller disks. Before the change lands, look at how much disk your server is using in the panel and compare it to the disk the smaller plan includes.

We never delete your files to make a smaller plan fit. If your server is over the new limit on the day it applies, every file is still there, but the server cannot write new ones until you free some space. In practice that shows as a server that will not save or will not start, which is alarming and entirely recoverable.

If you are close to the line, the easiest things to remove first are old backups you have already downloaded, and the logs folder.

Your account shows the disk each plan includes, next to each option. Your current usage is in the panel, on your server’s page, and comparing the two is the check worth doing before you confirm.

What it costs

Prices are the plan prices; there is no fee for changing. Moving up is prorated, moving down is not, because you keep what you already paid for until it runs out. Every invoice is on your billing page.

One change at a time

While a downgrade is scheduled, the page offers to cancel it rather than to schedule another. Cancel the first one if you have changed your mind about which size you want.

If something looks wrong

A plan change is two steps: the billing side and the server side. They are applied separately so that one failing cannot leave the other half done, and the server side retries on its own for hours. If the billing side has moved and your server has not, it shows up on our side as a failed job rather than disappearing, so contact support with the server name. We will either finish it or refund the difference; what we will not do is quietly keep the money for room you never got.
